Barbara Fels, 51, Killed in Auto-Pedestrian Crash in Newark

Newark, Delaware (September 5, 2017) – Police have identified the pedestrian hit and killed by a car in New Castle County on Thursday as 51-year-old Barbara Fels from Newark, according to Delaware State Police.

The fatal accident occurred at around 2:20 a.m., August 31, Capitol Trail in the area of Darwin Drive in Newark.

Police said that Fels was trying to cross Capitol Trail when she stepped into the path of a car. The driver tried to avoid hitting the woman but could not, and Fels was forced onto the car’s hood and ended up in the right lane.

Fels was not in a crosswalk and was using a flashlight. She wore dark clothing and suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.

Fels was pronounced dead at the crash site.

An investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
