Woman, 49, Struck and Killed by Vehicle on DE-2 in Newark

Newark, Delaware (August 31, 2017) – A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Newark on Thursday morning.

According to the authorities, the accident happened at about 2:20 a.m.  August 31, in the westbound lanes of DE-2 near Darwin Drive.

It is reported that the 49-year-old woman was attempting to cross the road when she was fatally hit by a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 33-year-old Wilmington man.

The reports further indicate that the woman was crossing the road at an undesignated point. It was also established that she was wearing dark clothing and was not carrying a flashlight.

The identity of the victim could not be immediately established.

An investigation into the incident is underway. Alcohol and drugs on the part of the pedestrian are being considered as a factor in the accident.

The driver of the car, however, was not injured in the crash.
